Event : KEEP It Reel Course Fishing 2011

Young people from Staining, Clitheroe, Fleetwood and Burnley attended the Keep It Reel Coarse Fishing evening at Whitmore Fishery, Kirkham. Whilst at times during the day it looked like the evening could have been a wash out, the rain managed to stay off and even glimpsies of blue sky were to be had.

After being briefed at the start of the evening by the volunteer staff everyone chose their pegs and were soon casting in. It didn’t take long for the first fish of the evening to be landed, a really nice mirror carp approx 1lb in weight by the girls from Tommy’s, Fleetwood. This was the signal for it to go mad with everyone pulling in “a fish a chuck” and certainly kept the staff team busy helping land and disgorging the fish. Carp, Goldfish, Bream, Tench, Gudgeon and Golden Orfe were all landed throughout the night much to the satisfaction of the young people.

Typically as the competition started the fish stopped feeding and it went all quiet apart from the pegs with the Staining and Clitheroe lads on who kept reguarly landing fish of all sizes. Things started to look up towards the end of the competition but it was too late to make a real difference to the results.

I enjoyed the fishing and the competition, it was fun, I had a laugh and caught the biggest fish ever! (well of the day anyway)''Reece Goddard, Burnley Boys & Girls Club

I really enjoyed the fishing because I haven’t fished for a while and it brought back some good memories. All in all it was a great night out, and would definitely do it againTom Melvin, Burnley Boys & Girls Club
