Event : Young People Complete Lakeland Challenge 2013

Lakeland Challenge returned after a yearís break with attendees from Burnley B&G, Brunshaw Action Group, Clitheroe Youth, Blackburn YMCA, Blackpool B&G and Tommyís CYP taking up the challenge of the week residential at Ormside Mill.

Not only was it the groupís first Lakeland Challenge but also for Matt Benson, the new Ormside Mill worker who in conjunction with Andy at Lancashire Boys & Girls Clubs had planned a full on week of action. Having Matt also meant new activities including Caving and the 24 hour Canoe Expedition to run alongside Team Building & Climbing.

Without exception everyone got stuck in to all the activities, from going through Heaven & Hell whilst Caving, scaling the heights of the Climbing Wall, beasting the paddle on Ullswater in perfect conditions to reach the overnight wild camp in a secluded bay on the lake and fighting the current on the River Eamont and not forgetting the legacy left behind at Ormside by the Lakeland Challenge 2013 Team, the Tyre Challenge. At the end of the week the group also had to plan and deliver a presentation about the week and their experiences as a group and as individuals to the staff team and Deputy County Organiser, Becky Hedgcock. Lakeland Challenge was a real highlight of the programme so far as it was reflected in the groupís presentation.

Well done to the 2013 team who conquered the Lakeland Challenge.

A big thank you also goes to Nicola Cookson of Lancaster Boys & Girls Club who came along and volunteered for the week
