Training and Events
A lot of the issues affecting young people are the same today as they were 100 years ago, peer pressure, negative behaviour, bullying, petty crime, etc. However, in today’s cyber world and the availability of smart phones, tablets and the internet, young people are far more exposed and vulnerable to negative behaviours than ever before and there can often be no escape. Whether it is bullying, exploitation, knife crime, online safety or simply concerns about what is going on in the world, youth workers need to have the skills and knowledge to be able to safeguard young people through this difficult transition.
In order to ensure club staff are equipped with the appropriate skills to support young people, LABGC consult with club leaders, staff and young people to identify gaps in training, apply for funding to enable staff to best support young people through their often complex lives. We also offer accreditation for young people, for details please see the section below.
If you are aware of any training needs or have any suggestions for future training please let us know.

Accreditation for Young People
LABGC is a registered AQA (Assessment and Qualifications Alliance) accreditation provider / assessor and is able to provide access to Youth Achievement Awards for young people.
We believe it is vital for young people to have access to achievable accreditation opportunities that acknowledge and evidence their skills and achievements in activities and projects of their choosing. Awards help to raise self-esteem and provides qualifications that enable young people to progress to the next stage in their lives and increase their chances of employability. Awards can be achieved through many disciplines, including skills development, social action, training and learning. For details of the Awards we present to young people each year please visit the section below – Awards
Awards
We provide a number of awards each year to recognise young people’s achievements. We are always pleased to acknowledge the fantastic efforts which are made by the many volunteers of our member clubs. Many of our clubs would not exist if it wasn’t for the commitment and dedication of their volunteers and The Keystone Awards enable us to recognise their continued support of young people through years of voluntary service from 10 – 50 years.Â
We present Awards to young people for the work they do in in their clubs. The Junior and Senior Member of the Year Awards recognise the positive achievements of young people in our member clubs. The awards reflect our programme and activity age groups and go to members who have excelled through their participation in our associations events and activities.
Club volunteers are recognised through our Adult and Young Volunteer of the Year Awards. There is nothing more important than having valuable volunteers of all ages and with a whole wealth of skills to help out when needed. Without them, many of our clubs and in turn opportunities for young people would just not exist. So each year we invite clubs to nominate a Young & Adult Volunteer of the Year to recognise and celebrate their great achievements and importance.
Finally we also present Awards to celebrate the best and winning entries in our projects, including Awards for the Junk to Funk and Club Dine with Me projects, and, through the national programme, Awards are presented for the winners of the annual competitions.
Support and Advice
Whether it’s setting up a club from scratch, increasing participation, developing a management committee, recruiting staff, introducing policies, accessing funding, assessing risk, sharing best practice and much more, LABGC are able to provide guidance and support.
A complete guide to running a successful and safe club for young people will be available shortly for member clubs/groups along with template policies and operational documents for members to download and adapt as required to suit your project.
Membership
LABGC member organisations are at the heart of our work. It is our firm view that the work of LABGC is becoming increasingly more important in light of the recent reduction in financial support of young people’s services and the current challenges facing young people and the voluntary services across Lancashire that are there to support them. To best address these challenges, we know it is vital that we work collaboratively with our members and provide a membership package that best suits their needs.Â

Partnerships
Where possible and appropriate, LABGC works in partnership with other organisations to deliver specific pieces of work to provide new opportunities and experiences for young people that promote their personal social development. Working in partnership allows us to widen our opportunities for young people with access to specialist skills, resources, equipment and explore new ways of working. Â
We are core members of the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs, established to assist and support county organisations and local clubs to provide safe and exciting places for young people. We are also members of UK Youth a national youth organisation and members of the following local support networks; Lancaster CVS, Lancashire Partnership Against Crime and Lancaster Chamber of Commerce.
A selection of partners we work with to deliver projects is below (select and click their logo to find out more about these partners):
Fundraising
LABGC rely on external funding to enable us to continue to deliver the services to the voluntary youth sector like we have done for over 80 years. The organisation was initially set up in 1934 by local business people who donated funds and invested time in ensuring young people had access to positive activity, social education and training so that they may grow to be responsible citizens of the future.
The past 10 yrs has seen a steady decline in government spending on youth services leaving young people more vulnerable than ever before. There has never been a greater need for local businesses to invest in young people.
The young people we work with today, are your potential employees of tomorrow and will be propping up the country’s economy in our retirement.Â
If you are looking for ways to support a Charity, we can help.
