Snow-Camp programmes offers young people the opportunity to progress from beginner skiers and snowboarders right through to becoming qualified instructors and their journey starts with our First Tracks Programme.
First Tracks provides young people (aged 13-21) with their first experience of snowsports on real snow slopes in UK, taking place throughout July and August each year.
Young people are taught how to ski or snowboard by qualified instructors and Snow-Camp apprentices and volunteers, as they are the best role models to demonstrate to the new young people what they can achieve with the charity.
Young people on our programmes are exposed to other youth groups and young people from across their region, addressing territorial bias and gang culture. Furthermore, for every hour spent on the slopes the young people spend the same amount of time in the classroom in our guided life skills sessions. These sessions are designed to help young people reflect upon the skills they are demonstrating on the slopes – perseverance, commitment, listening, teamwork, patience and overcoming fear as well as how to respond to challenges, deal with peer pressure and setting goals for the future. All essential life skills for young people.
- We have 15 places available for young people who are LABGC Club Members for a booking fee of just £10 per person!
- The cost of two days Snowboard or Ski Lessons with equipment hire at Chill Factore would usually cost hundreds of pounds, so this is a fantastic opourtunity!!
- At present we are limiting the number of spaces available to individual clubs to three young people, this is to give all our clubs time to put interested young people forward. However if you have more than three YP’s interested please let me know, because if there are spaces still available May we will raise the three person limit.
- If you are a young person or if you work with young people who would love to seize this opourtunity, please contact leon@labgc.org.uk
- Further information about what this course can lead to can be found HERE
Muhammed and Ismaeel’s (Jamea Masjid) Story
“The two boys got involved in First Tracks our initial 2 day course introducing them to skiing and snowboarding they both chose to Snowboard. They both wanted to continue onwards to the next course which is our 5 week course called Graduate. They came along every week for 5 weeks on a Saturday and continued advancing their snowboarding skills. To which they both absolutely excelled in. They have personally worked with an up and coming Olympian, the worlds fastest snowboarder and many more exciting snowsports industry partners! They have also got involved in our life skills session along side the snowboarding to advance their understanding of the industry a little more and have reflected on their skills on and off the slope. Within this they have gained an ASDAN qualification in sports and fitness! They have both been outstanding young people who have worked extremely hard throughout each course and put in lots of effort – they have also mixed in well with the other young people on the courses and have been a great support network for others who may have been struggling.”
